Japa, the Yoruba word for running away that has become Nigerian slang for emigrating, is one of the most searched topics among young Nigerians and their families. It is also where many people lose the most money, through visa refusals that could have been avoided, fake recruitment agents and plans built on rules that have since changed.
This hub brings together every Naijatipsland guide on moving abroad, from choosing a country and visa route to the costs of the first months and the practical paperwork afterwards. Each guide is built from official government sources and updated when the rules change. Immigration rules in the UK, Canada, the US and Europe have all shifted in 2025 and 2026, so always check the date on each guide and confirm on the official website before you pay any fee.
The short version: choose your route (work, study, family or permanent residence) before you choose a country, budget for the full cost including surcharges and your first three months, and never pay anyone who promises a guaranteed visa or sells a job offer.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the easiest country for Nigerians to relocate to?
There is no single easiest country. It depends on your qualifications, savings, age and family. Job-seeker visas in some European countries do not need a job offer, while Canada’s points system rewards education, language scores and work experience.
How much money do I need to japa?
It varies widely by route. Budget for visa fees, any health surcharge, proof of funds where required, flights, accommodation deposits and at least three months of living costs. Our country guides give current figures.
Can I relocate without an agent?
Yes. Most visa applications are made online directly on official government websites. If you use an adviser, check they are registered with the relevant regulator, and never pay for a ‘guaranteed’ visa or a job offer.
Can Nigerians abroad vote in the 2027 elections?
No. Current Nigerian law does not allow voting from overseas. You must be registered and physically present at your polling unit in Nigeria on election day.
How do I know if a UK or Canada job offer is genuine?
Check that the employer is a licensed sponsor on the official register, that you were properly interviewed, and that nobody is asking you to pay for the job or for sponsorship. Requests for fees are the clearest sign of a scam.
