Best UK Recruitment Agencies for Nigerians (2026): By Sector, Visa Rules and How to Avoid Scams

Last updated: 1 November 2026 · By Naijatipsland Editorial Team · Editorial policy

Checked 1 November 2026. Every week, Nigerians searching for UK jobs are offered “guaranteed visa sponsorship” by agents who want ₦2 million or £5,000 upfront. Real UK recruitment agencies don’t work like that. They are paid by employers, they can’t legally charge you for finding you work, and since 2025 the visa rules have narrowed which jobs they can fill from overseas at all.

This guide lists the best-known UK recruitment agencies by sector, explains what an agency can realistically do for a Nigerian applicant in 2026, and shows you how to check that an agency, an employer and a job offer are genuine before you send a single document.

How UK recruitment agencies actually work

A UK recruitment agency is paid by the employer, usually a percentage of the first year’s salary for permanent roles or a margin on hourly pay for temporary work. Its job is to find candidates who match the employer’s brief. That has three consequences for you:

  • You never pay. Under the Employment Agencies Act 1973 and the Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Businesses Regulations 2003, UK agencies can’t charge work-seekers a fee for finding them work, apart from narrow exceptions such as some entertainment and modelling roles. Anyone asking you to pay for a “job slot”, “CoS” or “processing” is either breaking UK law or isn’t a real agency.
  • The agency doesn’t sponsor your visa. Only an employer with a Home Office sponsor licence can issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS). An agency can put you forward to a sponsoring employer, but it can’t create a visa by itself.
  • Agencies want low-risk candidates. Many will only consider people who already have the right to work in the UK. Recruiters who do place overseas candidates usually focus on hard-to-fill, graduate-level roles where the employer is already used to sponsoring.

The 2026 rules every Nigerian applicant should know

Before you contact any agency, check that the kind of job you want can still be sponsored. The rules changed sharply on 22 July 2025:

  • Salary: most Skilled Worker jobs must pay at least £41,700 a year or the occupation’s “going rate”, whichever is higher. New entrants and some shortage roles have lower rates.
  • Skill level: new sponsored roles must generally be graduate-level (RQF 6). Some RQF 3 to 5 roles stay sponsorable through a Temporary Shortage List, currently listed until at least the end of 2026.
  • Care workers: the care worker and senior care worker roles (SOC 6135 and 6136) closed to new overseas applicants in July 2025. Offers of “care worker visa sponsorship” to people still in Nigeria are now a major scam warning sign.
  • English: new Skilled Worker applications from 8 January 2026 need English at B2 level (upper intermediate), up from B1.
  • Health workers and the red list: Nigeria is on the WHO health workforce safeguards list. Under the UK’s Code of Practice for international recruitment, NHS bodies and agencies on the ethical recruiter list must not actively recruit health and social care staff from Nigeria. Nigerian nurses, doctors and allied professionals can still apply directly to UK employers on their own initiative, for example through NHS Jobs, but agencies won’t come looking for you in Nigeria.

The best UK recruitment agencies by sector

The agencies below are large, long-established UK recruiters with public websites, published job listings and UK offices. Listing them isn’t an endorsement, and none of them can promise you sponsorship. Always apply through the agency’s own website, never through a WhatsApp contact using its name.

Generalist agencies (all sectors)

  • Hays: one of the UK’s biggest recruiters, covering accountancy, construction, engineering, IT, education and more. Good for professional roles where sponsorship is common.
  • Reed: runs reed.co.uk, one of the largest UK job boards, plus specialist recruitment teams. Use the “visa sponsorship” keyword in searches.
  • Adecco, Randstad and ManpowerGroup: global staffing firms with strong UK operations in office, logistics, engineering and tech roles.

Professional, finance and management

  • Michael Page (PageGroup): finance, legal, HR, marketing and senior management roles.
  • Robert Walters: accountancy, banking, legal, tech and supply chain, with many mid-to-senior roles.
  • Robert Half: finance, accounting and technology, including contract work.

Technology and IT

  • Harvey Nash: software, data, cyber security and IT leadership.
  • Computer Futures (SThree group): developers, cloud, DevOps and data roles, many on contract.
  • Hays Technology: broad IT coverage across the UK.

Tech is one of the most realistic routes for Nigerians, because many software, data and cyber roles clear both the RQF 6 skill level and the salary threshold.

Engineering and construction

  • Gattaca (Matchtech): engineering, infrastructure, energy and rail.
  • Jonathan Lee Recruitment: engineering and manufacturing.
  • Hays Engineering and Construction: civil, structural, quantity surveying and site management.

Healthcare (mostly for people already in the UK)

  • HCL Workforce, Medacs Healthcare, Pulse and ID Medical: well-known UK healthcare staffing agencies supplying nurses, doctors and allied health staff to the NHS and private providers.

Because of the red list, these agencies won’t actively recruit health workers in Nigeria. If you are a Nigerian nurse or doctor already in the UK (for example on a dependant visa with the right to work), they can be a fast route to shifts. If you’re in Nigeria, apply directly to NHS trusts through NHS Jobs and Trac.

Job boards that work alongside agencies

  • GOV.UK Find a Job: the government’s own job board.
  • LinkedIn Jobs: filter by “visa sponsorship” and message recruiters directly from your profile.
  • Indeed UK, Totaljobs and CV-Library: large boards where many agencies post roles.
  • NHS Jobs and Trac: the main routes for NHS posts.

Before you apply, cross-check every employer against the GOV.UK Register of licensed sponsors: workers. If the company isn’t on it, it can’t sponsor you.

How to check an agency or job offer is genuine

  1. No fees: refuse any request for money: “registration”, “CoS fee”, “processing”, “training before deployment”. In the UK the employer pays the CoS fee and Immigration Skills Charge.
  2. Sponsor register: search the employer’s exact legal name on the GOV.UK licensed sponsors list.
  3. Companies House: check the agency and employer are registered, active and have a real UK address.
  4. Industry membership: many reputable agencies are members of the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) or APSCo.
  5. Contact details: real recruiters use a company email domain, a UK phone number and a website with live job ads. Be wary of Gmail addresses and WhatsApp-only “recruiters”.
  6. Interview: a genuine job involves a real interview, usually by video, with questions about your skills. “Offer letters” sent without any interview are a red flag.

If an agency in the UK charges you, you can report it to the Employment Agency Standards (EAS) Inspectorate. If you’ve been scammed from Nigeria, our guides on recruitment scams in Nigeria and how to spot fake job ads explain where to report.

How to get a UK recruiter to take you seriously

  • Use a UK-style CV: two pages, no photo, no date of birth or state of origin, a short profile, achievements with numbers, and UK-equivalent qualifications (check with UK ENIC if needed).
  • Say your visa status upfront: “Requires Skilled Worker sponsorship” or “Dependant visa, full right to work until 2028”. Recruiters filter on this first.
  • Target roles that can be sponsored: graduate-level jobs paying at or above the threshold. Applying for jobs that can’t be sponsored wastes everyone’s time.
  • Get the English test early: B2 is now the bar for new Skilled Worker visas.
  • Build a LinkedIn profile recruiters can find, with the job titles they search for and a UK location if you’re open to relocating.
  • Prepare for competency interviews: UK interviewers use the STAR method. Our job interview tips help.

What about seasonal farm work?

The Seasonal Worker visa for horticulture and poultry is run only through Home Office-approved scheme operators, not through ordinary agencies. The approved operators are listed on GOV.UK. Recruitment for this route has mostly focused on other countries, and many Nigerians have been targeted by fake “farm job” offers. If someone offers you UK farm work for a fee, treat it as a scam.

Frequently asked questions

Can a UK recruitment agency sponsor my visa?

Only if the agency itself is your employer and holds a sponsor licence, which is uncommon for permanent placements. Usually the client company sponsors you, and the agency only introduces you.

Do I have to pay a UK recruitment agency?

No. UK law bans agencies from charging work-seekers for finding them a job. Paying for a CoS or a “job slot” is a common scam, and buying a CoS can also lead to your visa being refused and a ban.

Which jobs are easiest for Nigerians to get through UK agencies?

Graduate-level roles in tech, engineering, finance and some health professions, where pay is at or above the threshold and employers are already licensed sponsors.

Can I still get a UK care worker job from Nigeria?

Not as a new overseas applicant. The care worker visa route closed to new overseas recruits in July 2025. People already in the UK in that route have transitional protection.

How do I know if a UK company is a licensed sponsor?

Search its name on the GOV.UK Register of licensed sponsors: workers, which is updated regularly.

  1. No genuine UK agency will ever ask you to pay for a job or a Certificate of Sponsorship; the employer pays. Have you been offered UK visa sponsorship for a fee, and how did you find out it was fake?
