The Super Eagles are in the middle of qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will host. Nigeria missed the 2026 FIFA World Cup, so the focus is on continental football, and on rebuilding under head coach Éric Chelle. Here is how to follow the team.

The qualifying group
Nigeria are in Group L with Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau and Tanzania. Tanzania have already qualified as co-hosts, which means the group fixtures count for the other teams. The group matches are played across three international windows: 21 September to 6 October 2026, 9 to 17 November 2026 and 20 to 30 March 2027.
Key dates
- 25 September 2026: Nigeria beat Madagascar 2 to 1 in Uyo at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, coming from behind.
- 29 September 2026: Nigeria lost 3 to 0 away to Guinea-Bissau, a heavy setback that put the Wild Dogs top of the group on six points.
- 6 October 2026: a 3 to 3 draw with Russia in a friendly at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, with a reshaped squad, which the NFF welcomed as a show of fighting spirit. Nigeria lost four places in the latest FIFA rankings after the window.
- November 2026: two matches against Tanzania. One report gave 13 November in Uyo and 17 November in Dar es Salaam, while earlier schedules gave 11 and 15 November, so confirm the dates with the NFF. After two matchdays, reports put Guinea-Bissau on six points, Nigeria on three and Madagascar on one, with co-hosts Tanzania already qualified, so only one of the other three can still take the remaining qualifying place, according to one report. Check the table before each match.
- March 2027: the final qualifying matches.

Squad news
Coach Chelle named a 24-man squad for the September qualifiers led by captain Wilfred Ndidi, with players including Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, Moses Simon, Samuel Chukwueze, Akor Adams, Calvin Bassey and goalkeeper Maduka Okoye. Reports said Osimhen would miss the first two qualifiers with an adductor injury, and several newcomers received their first call-ups. Squads change between windows, so use the NFF’s announcements for the current list.
Where to watch in Nigeria
- Pay TV: matches are expected on SuperSport channels via DStv and GOtv and their streaming apps, but CAF had not formally confirmed the Nigerian broadcaster for some fixtures when this guide was prepared. Check the broadcaster’s schedule on match day.
- Radio: many stations carry live commentary, which uses little data.
- Text and score updates: sports websites, CAF and NFF social accounts and news apps.
- Highlights: official federation and CAF channels often post clips after the game.
- Abroad: broadcast rights differ by country, so check local listings, and use only legal streaming services.
Data costs can add up if you stream, so see our guide to data plans, and read how to save data.

Avoid streaming scams and risks
- Pop-ups promising “free live stream” can hide malware or phishing pages. Do not enter card details or OTPs.
- Install apps only from official stores, and check the publisher.
- Be wary of social media messages offering “VIP links”. See our guides on internet scams and online safety tips.
- Betting adverts surround football coverage. Gambling carries risks, so if you gamble, set limits and never borrow to bet.
Beyond the men’s team
Nigeria’s women’s teams are among Africa’s most successful. See our guide on women’s football in Nigeria. For other national fixtures, our page on the Super Eagles fixtures, squad and results carries the latest updates.
If You Cannot Watch Live
- Use radio commentary, which needs very little data.
- Follow text updates from reliable sports outlets and the NFF.
- Watch highlights after the match on official channels.
Understanding the Qualifying Format
In the AFCON qualifiers each group plays home and away, and qualification depends on points, with tie-breakers such as head-to-head results. Co-hosts Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda have already qualified, so in Nigeria’s group the other teams compete for the remaining places. Check the latest table before each window, because the picture changes with every result. See our Super Eagles fixtures, squad and results page.
