Where do the Super Eagles play their club football? After a busy 2026 summer transfer window, the answer has changed for several regulars. Taiwo Awoniyi and Frank Onyeka are now team-mates at Coventry City, Akor Adams has moved from Sevilla to Venezia, Raphael Onyedika left Club Brugge for Eintracht Frankfurt, and Tolu Arokodare is on loan at Ajax. Ademola Lookman is at Atlético Madrid and Victor Osimhen is still leading the line for Galatasaray.
This guide lists the club of every player in Nigeria’s most recent competitive squad, the September 2026 AFCON qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau, grouped by position, plus a breakdown by league and the players pushing for a call-up. For fixtures and the latest squad news, see our Super Eagles fixtures, squad and results guide.

- Only one player is based in Africa: goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, at Chippa United in South Africa.

Nwabali, Nigeria’s first choice since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, had an unsettled 2026: he left Chippa United in February and then returned to the Gqeberha club in July. Okoye has played regularly for Udinese this season and has said he wants to give everything for the club despite transfer talk. Okonkwo, who came through Arsenal’s academy, is the third-choice keeper.

Nigerian players pushing for a call-up
Several players outside the September squad moved to bigger clubs in the summer and could come into contention:
- Zadok Yohanna joined Brighton & Hove Albion from AIK for a reported €28 million, the most expensive Nigerian transfer of the window.
- Femi Azeez moved from Millwall to Brighton on deadline day, for a reported fee of around €14.6 million rising with add-ons.
- Terem Moffi joined Hamburg in Germany’s Bundesliga from Nice.
- Kelechi Iheanacho, recalled for the October friendly against Russia, moved from Celtic to Turkish club Bursaspor.
- Zaidu Sanusi remains at FC Porto, one of six Nigerians named by Vanguard as Champions League players this season.
- Chidozie Awaziem left Nantes for Konyaspor in Turkey.
Head coach Eric Chelle tends to pick an experienced squad for competitive qualifiers and a younger, more experimental group for friendlies. The October friendly against Russia (3-3) included uncapped players such as goalkeeper Samuel James and defender Victory Akpe, so a strong club season can earn a chance quickly.
What the club picture means for November
Club form matters more than usual before the must-win double-header against Tanzania in November, after the 3-0 defeat in Guinea-Bissau left Nigeria three points behind in Group L (see our AFCON 2027 qualifiers table).
- Osimhen’s fitness is the big question. He missed the September games with a thigh strain picked up for Galatasaray on 20 September, then returned for his club on 9 October and has since started in the Champions League. If he stays fit, he is certain to lead the line.
- Coventry gives Chelle a ready-made partnership. Awoniyi and Onyeka now train together every day, which could help Nigeria’s pressing game, something Chelle admitted fell away in Bissau.
- Strikers in form abroad. Ilenikhena started his Saudi season with three goals in three games and scored against Madagascar; Usor scored on his debut in the same game. Both have strong cases to keep their places.
- Defensive continuity. Most of the back line plays regularly in England, which should help a defence that conceded three times in Bissau.
How we checked these clubs
We started from the official squad Eric Chelle named on 17 September 2026 and checked each player’s club against transfer reports from the summer 2026 window, club announcements reported in the Nigerian and international press, and reports from September and October 2026 confirming where each player is playing. Where a move was a loan, we say so. If you spot a change we have missed, tell us through our contact page and we will update the list.
