Starlink is the satellite internet service many Nigerians ask about when fibre and mobile data let them down. It works almost anywhere with a clear view of the sky, but it costs far more than most local options. This guide sets out what Starlink costs in Nigeria in 2026, what you get for the money, where you may have to join a waitlist, and who should skip it.
Prices below come from Nigerian guides updated in 2026 and from NCC subscriber data. Starlink prices are tied to the dollar and have changed before, so confirm the current price on the official Starlink Nigeria site before you pay. Where our sources disagree, we say so.
The short answer
- The Residential plan costs N57,000 a month in two separate guides, and the Standard Kit costs about N590,000 on the official site.
- In the first year, the kit plus twelve months of service comes to about N1,274,000 (our calculation: N590,000 plus 12 x N57,000), before installation or power backup.
- Typical speeds reported are about 50 to 220 Mbps download, 10 to 25 Mbps upload and 20 to 60 ms latency.
- New residential orders are waitlisted in many Lagos and Abuja areas.
- Starlink had 98,642 active subscribers in Q2 2026, second only to Spectranet (111,384), according to NCC data reported by Space in Africa.

Starlink plans and prices in Nigeria
- Residential: N57,000 a month for homes and small offices, described as unlimited data in one guide.
- Roam: N38,000 a month, for use anywhere in Nigeria. Guides warn against using Roam at a fixed home, since Starlink can restrict or move the account.
- Business Priority: about N159,000 a month in one guide, with 1TB to 2TB of priority data, a public IPv4 address and priority support. Another guide lists the business plan at N114,000, so ask Starlink for the current figure.
Hardware cost
- Standard Kit: about N590,000 on the official site (dish, router, mount and cables). Resellers were reported at N620,000 to N690,000, and used kits at N700,000 to N1,000,000. One comparison guide listed the kit at about N290,000, which conflicts with the other sources, so treat that figure with caution.
- Mini Kit: about N318,000, smaller and portable.
- Business dish: N3.15 million to N4.1 million for the Flat High Performance dish.
- Delivery: about two to three weeks.
Buy only from the official Starlink Nigeria website or a verified reseller. Imported kits, listed at around 599 US dollars in one guide, can cost more after conversion, shipping and customs, and may face activation limits and no local support.

What it really costs in the first year
Kit plus twelve months of Residential service: N590,000 + N684,000 = N1,274,000, or about N106,000 a month averaged over the year. Add roof installation (one guide gives N10,000 to N25,000) and a power backup, since the dish and router need electricity. After the first year, the monthly cost falls to the plan price plus power.
Speeds you can expect
Guides report downloads of about 50 to 220 Mbps, uploads of 10 to 25 Mbps and latency of 20 to 60 ms. Speeds can drop in peak evening hours, in heavy storms, and where trees or buildings block the sky. Business Priority users are prioritised only up to their included data. For comparison, Opensignal measured mobile download averages of 13 to 21 Mbps across the main networks in mid-2026 (see our guide to the fastest network in Nigeria).
Waitlists and availability
A guide updated in 2026 says new Residential orders are paused in high-demand areas, including Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Lagos Island, Surulere, Lekki and parts of Abuja. Customers there pay a refundable deposit and join a waitlist, and the name on the ID must match the order. Another guide lists Lagos and Abuja as waitlisted and Port Harcourt as limited, and says Business Priority was the only option for new customers in the most congested parts of Lagos as of 14 February 2026. Starlink has given no timeline for reopening. Starlink launched in Nigeria in January 2023, halted orders nationwide in late 2024 and resumed in mid-2025, according to TechCabal.

How Starlink compares with other providers
NCC data for Q2 2026 reported by Space in Africa shows Starlink with 98,642 active subscribers, up 6,651 since Q4 2025, trailing market leader Spectranet (111,384) by 12,742, the narrowest gap on record. FibreOne had 56,486 and the whole market grew 19.6% to 420,989 subscribers. The author estimated Starlink could pass Spectranet within two to three quarters if growth held, but flagged that as extrapolation, and noted Starlink growth had slowed from 38.3% to 7.2%.
A comparison site listed these price ranges (indicative, and the site may earn commissions): ipNX fibre N18,000 to N80,000, FibreOne N18,000 to N75,000, Spectranet 4G N15,000 to N50,000 and MTN fixed wireless 5G N12,000 to N40,000. If fibre or fixed 5G reaches your street, it is usually far cheaper.
Is Starlink worth it?
It can be worth it if:
- You live or work where fibre does not reach, such as rural areas, farms or remote offices.
- Fibre in your area is cut often and downtime costs you money.
- You need a business link with steady speeds and can afford the Priority plan.
- You have a roof or clear mounting spot and reliable power backup.
Skip it if:
- Fibre or fixed 5G already works at your address.
- Your budget is under about N40,000 a month, as one guide advised.
- You rent without roof access, or travel a lot (use Roam only as the rules allow).
- You live in a waitlisted area and need internet this week.
How to order safely
- Check availability for your address on the official Starlink Nigeria site.
- Use ID matching the name on the order, especially for a waitlist deposit.
- Buy the kit from the official site or a verified reseller. Avoid unverified social media sellers.
- Do not buy a used kit without checking that it can be activated on your account.
- Choose the plan that matches your use. Do not use Roam as a home plan.
- Plan a clear sky view and a backup power source.
Frequently asked questions
How much is Starlink in Nigeria?
The Residential plan is N57,000 a month, and the Standard Kit is about N590,000, according to 2026 guides. Confirm on the official site.
Is there a waitlist?
Yes, in many Lagos and Abuja areas, with a refundable deposit. Starlink has given no reopening date.
How fast is Starlink in Nigeria?
Guides report about 50 to 220 Mbps download, depending on location and time of day.
Can I use Starlink Roam at home?
Guides advise against it, because Starlink can restrict or move accounts using Roam at a fixed home.
Is Starlink cheaper than fibre?
No, not where fibre is available. Fibre plans in the comparison guide started at N18,000 a month.
Will the price change?
It can. Prices are tied to the dollar, so a weaker naira can raise local prices without notice.
Bottom line
Starlink solves a real problem for people outside fibre coverage, but at about N1.27 million in the first year it is a serious purchase. Check availability and rival providers at your address first, and buy only through the official channels.

Plan around the first-year figure: about ₦1.27 million once the ₦590,000 kit is added to twelve months of the Residential plan, before installation and power backup. That’s roughly ₦106,000 a month. If you use Starlink, what made it worth it over fibre or 5G where you are?
Starlink is now less than 13,000 subscribers behind Spectranet, the narrowest gap on record, though its growth has slowed. Will it overtake Spectranet next year, or will the Lagos and Abuja waitlists hold it back?
