Osun Account Freezing: Tinubu has done well, what more do I want? – Adeleke drops suit against EFCC

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has withdrawn the suit he filed against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the freezing of the state government’s bank account ahead of the just-concluded governorship election.

Adeleke had challenged the EFCC’s decision to secure an order restricting access to the state government’s account, describing the move as politically motivated and disruptive to the administration.

President Bola Tinubu subsequently directed the anti-graft agency to lift the restriction and discontinue the related legal action following concerns over the timing of the freeze.

Hours after being declared winner of the governorship election, Adeleke disclosed during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics that he had instructed the state Attorney General to withdraw the suit.

The governor said Tinubu had intervened in the matter and that he had decided to put the disagreement with the EFCC behind him.

“I’m putting them behind. What else do I want? I have instructed my Attorney General to drop it. Mr President has done well. He called me. What more do I want?” Adeleke said.

Adeleke: Tinubu Unaware of EFCC Actions

Adeleke also addressed reports that some of his aides and supporters had been invited for questioning by the EFCC.

He said he had directed his lawyers to assist those invited, insisting that his administration had nothing to hide.

According to him, some of his aides were questioned and subsequently released after the anti-graft agency found no wrongdoing.

“I told my people, go there. We haven’t got anything to hide,” he said.

Adeleke further defended Tinubu, saying the President was not necessarily aware of some actions attributed to federal agencies.

“Most of these things, the President doesn’t know. The President has a lot of foreign work and jobs to do,” he stated.

The governor alleged that former Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, was behind the EFCC actions because of his relationship with the President.

“All these things are Oyetola because he is the cousin to the President. He is dropping the President’s name. I know that the President didn’t know about the EFCC one. That is why he had to call me and stop it,” Adeleke alleged.

Adeleke’s decision to withdraw the suit comes shortly after his victory in the Osun governorship election, in which the Independent National Electoral Commission declared him winner for a second term.
