Arsenal pip Forest 1-0 as Man United’s poor league start continues

Manchester United’s poor start in the 2026/27 Premier League season continued on Sunday after the Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds United at Elland Road.

The result means that Man United have drawn four of their opening seven league matches, lost two and won just one, marking the club’s worst-ever start to a league season.

After failing to put a free header into the back of the net in the early minutes of the first half, Bryan Mbeumo put Man United into the lead in the 35th minute after he tapped home a cross into the box by Youri Tielemans.

The Red Devils held the advantage until the 51st minute of the match when free Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised for Leeds United, latching home a bouncing ball into the 18-yard box.

Neither side was able to find the net for the remainder of the match as Man United and Leeds United shared the spoils. Man United now sit 13th on the Premier League table.

Speaking after the match, underfire Man United manager Michael Carrick said, “It felt like a fresh start today, where we’re at, accepting it and doing something about it. There was a real purpose to the group the last couple of days and they took it out onto the pitch”.

The Red Devils would be looking for a rebound when they face Como in their next UEFA Champions League match on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Arsenal moved three points behind table leader Manchester City on the league standings following a narrow 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Arsenal dominated the match from kickoff but were unable to reach the defence line of the hosts until the 80th minute when Noni Madueke’s shot inside the 18-yard box was deflected into the net by Forest’s defender.

Chris Wood had the opportunity to equalise for Forest moments later when he found himself unmarked in the box with the ball but his attempt was blocked as the Gunners extended their point tally to 18.

In the other matches on Sunday, Bournemouth beat 10-man Sunderland 2-0, while Brighton thrashed Crystal Palace 5-0.
