Sources: ‘Surprise’ update on Liverpool signing Alex Scott in January

It would be a surprise if Liverpool acted on their interest in Alex Scott in the January window, sources have told Football Insider.

The Bournemouth midfielder is attracting plenty of suitors across the Premier League, with Anfield a few among them.

Liverpool’s midfield woes have been well-documented, with calls for the Reds to strengthen in that area.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, a move in January for Scott, while not impossible, would be a significant twist.

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola is already well aware of the qualities that Scott has to offer, seeing as he was his manager at the Cherries.

The Englishman has continued to go from strength to strength, with his club placing a large asking price for him ahead of January.

Bournemouth price makes Alex Scott to Liverpool in January unlikely

Scott could leave Bournemouth in the January window, but it would take a significantly high offer to tempt the South Coast club.

The Cherries are in no rush to let their star midfielder leave for cheap.

With interest in the English international continuing to grow, any club looking to secure his signature midway through the season will have to dig deep into their pockets.

However, even that may not be enough to guarantee his signing, with Bournemouth desperate to remain in control of Scott’s future.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I shared: “I would be surprised if they’d be able to do anything in January. Bournemouth are reluctantly willing to let Scott go in January for a fee in excess of £100million.

“I think that would be prohibitive to Liverpool and probably other interested clubs as well. We know that Chelsea are big admirers of Alex Scott as well, having had several offers rejected for him in the summer window.”

Are Liverpool risking missing out on Scott?

Liverpool have not been shy to splash money around over the last two summer windows, but so far, that expenditure has yet to reap rewards.

That fact may be behind Liverpool’s unwillingness to go to the £100m price tag set for January.

However, the Reds have been known to be patient in the past, and that could see them wait until the summer to make their move.

But with plenty of interest elsewhere, including from Chelsea, there is always the risk of another club agreeing to a deal before then.
