Federal High Court Judge slumps, dies suddenly in Kano

A serving Federal High Court judge attached to the Kano Division, Mohammed Nasir Yunusa, has reportedly died after slumping at his residence.

According to reports, the judge collapsed in his living room and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel confirmed him dead on arrival.

Sources within the Federal High Court confirmed that the judge died on Thursday evening and was buried on Friday in line with Islamic rites.

“Yes, the judge died Thursday evening and he has been buried,” a source was quoted as saying, adding that he was known for handling several high-profile political and electoral cases.

The death was also confirmed by the Director of Information of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Catherine Oby Christopher, who said Justice Yunusa passed away at the State Medical Centre in Kano.

Justice Yunusa was widely known for presiding over sensitive election-related cases, including rulings connected to disputes arising from the 2023 general elections.

One of the notable cases he handled involved legal challenges concerning candidates of the Labour Party and issues surrounding certificates of return issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

His last judicial engagements included decisions that drew national attention in politically sensitive litigation involving multiple parties and candidates.

The news of his death has prompted tributes from legal colleagues, who described him as diligent, hardworking, and committed to the administration of justice.
