It’s easy to forget that Kendry Paez was for a while the young player Chelsea fans were most excited about signing. It’s not gone to plan since, and after a failed sojourn in Europe he’s returned to South America, where he’s playing with River Plate.
Even there, things aren’t going well. He’s started just three games since January. He’s been involved in 10 games out of a potential 18. That’s just not enough game time to help him develop, so what do the Blues too?
Chelsea face Paez dilemma this summer
They could recall him and send him elsewhere – they have a clause which would allow them to do that. But dropping him to a level below River Plate arguably doesn’t do much to develop him either. It might be better to leave him there, at a club famed for getting the best out of youngsters, and hope that he gradually earns first team minutes.
Given how poor the sporting structure’s loan decisions have been in the last few years, we trust them to make the wrong decision.
In other news…
Enzo Fernandez is the most obvious candidate for Chelsea to sell this summer, according to a new report about their plans.
Wesley Fofana is starting to be linked with moves away from Chelsea, but his wages make it very hard for that to happen anytime soon.
