Bournemouth are working to include a release clause in Alex Scott’s new contract as Man United plot a summer move, sources have told Football Insider.
The Cherries have opened preliminary talks over fresh terms with Scott after his standout 2025-26 campaign.
New boss Marco Rose is keen to see the 22-year-old sign a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in 2028.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Man United remain keen on his services and could pounce to trigger any release clause that could be included in his new deal.
Arsenal recently saw their interest in Scott rebuffed by Bournemouth, who are preparing for their first ever European campaign in the Europa League.
Chelsea also retain an interest in his services, while Spurs were linked but have moved to snap up Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes this week.
Alex Scott could be available if Bournemouth agree to release clause
Scott’s current plans are unclear, with regular game time likely to be at the forefront of his mind when picking his next move this summer.
The 22-year-old is on the fringes of the England squad after being included in the World Cup standby list and the travelling party for their pre-tournament friendlies.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Bournemouth are saying he’s not for sale. They don’t want to lose him. The new manager, Marco Rose, wants to keep hold of Scott and the club are actively in talks over a new contract to reward his progress.
“There are a lot of clubs keeping tabs on his situation. Arsenal have had an approach rejected by Bournemouth and Chelsea are admirers of him as well.
“If Bournemouth can agree a new deal with him, there’ll probably be a release clause in there as well. There’s no doubt that Man United are very much interested in Scott.”
United want to sign two midfielders after Manuel Ugarte blow
Scott may not be the only midfielder to arrive at Old Trafford this summer if Michael Carrick gets his way.
The Red Devils saw Ugarte leave the pitch in tears with serious knee ligament damage in Uruguay’s World Cup clash against Spain, and he could be facing up to 12 months on the sidelines.
As a result of his injury, sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that United want to sign two midfielders to bolster Carrick’s depth.
Scott is on their radar, while the likes of Felix Nmecha and Aurelien Tchouameni have also been linked to the club.
