Arise Television anchor, Rufai Oseni, has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, accusing him of inconsistency and hypocrisy in his position on zoning as Nigeria prepares for the next general elections.
Speaking during a live programme on Arise TV, Oseni said Atiku tends to support zoning arrangements when they favour him but rejects them when they do not align with his political interests.
“Atiku Abubakar should stop being hypocritical. When zoning favours him, he has no problem with it, but when it doesn’t favour him, he suddenly declares it self-defeating,” he said.
He referenced past political developments within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including legal disputes over zoning arrangements during the 2011 election cycle.
Oseni questioned Atiku’s consistency, noting that the former vice president had previously challenged the party’s zoning decisions in court when it was politically advantageous.
He also recalled Atiku’s political fallout with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2007 as part of his broader argument on political positioning and principle.
The comments have since sparked reactions amid ongoing national debates over zoning and power rotation ahead of the 2027 elections.
