Instead, the conversation has turned into something completely strange.
Since the Blues beat Wrexham, some pundits and fans have gone as far as calling for VAR to be scrapped even though the system intervened correctly on two key decisions (the red card and the offside decision).
Let that sink in.
Not because VAR made a mistake.
Not because there was a controversial error.
But simply because it ruined the romantic storyline people wanted.
âš½ Fans constantly demand VAR when referees make big mistakes.
Yet when VAR actually gets the decisions right and the team people hoped would win doesn’t, suddenly the technology becomes the villain.
That kind of selective outrage makes no sense.
Football cannot demand accuracy and fairness one minute, and then complain when the system delivers exactly that the next.
