Landon Emenalo, son of former Super Eagles defender and ex-Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo, has joined Scottish giants Celtic on loan from Chelsea.
The 18-year-old, who is comfortable playing in both defence and midfield, will spend the season in Scotland as he looks to gain valuable first-team experience.
Emenalo was included in Chelsea’s senior squad for their pre-season tour of Asia and Australia and featured for Xabi Alonso’s side in their victory over A-League club Western Sydney Wanderers.
Chelsea said the move represents an important opportunity for the youngster to continue his development at senior level.
“Landon will gain valuable top-flight experience in Scotland,” Chelsea said in a statement obtained from its website on Thursday, while wishing the academy graduate “good luck” during his spell at Celtic.
Emenalo joined Chelsea’s Academy at the age of seven and has progressed through the club’s youth system over the years.
He was a regular starter for Chelsea Under-21s last season and helped the Blues finish top of the Premier League 2 table.
The teenager also contributed to Chelsea’s Under-18s success, helping the side secure the national championship after defeating Manchester City in the play-off final at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea said it would continue to monitor the youngster’s progress during his time at Celtic.
The loan move provides Emenalo with an opportunity to experience regular senior football and further develop his game away from the Chelsea Academy.
