University of Benin opens recruitment for Professors, Lecturers, Graduate Assistants (How to Apply)


The University of Benin (UNIBEN), Edo State, has announced vacancies for academic positions across several departments and faculties of the institution.

The recruitment exercise covers positions ranging from Graduate Assistant and Assistant Lecturer to Lecturer I, Lecturer II, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor and Professor.

The available positions cut across Basic Medical Sciences, Dentistry, Medicine, Science Laboratory Technology and Social Sciences.

Basic Medical Sciences

The university is recruiting for the following positions:

Requirements for Senior Lecturers

Candidates applying for the Senior Lecturer positions are required to possess a PhD, alongside at least five years of teaching experience.

Applicants must also have a minimum of eight peer-reviewed publications.

Generally, the university requires candidates for teaching positions to have a first degree not below Second-Class Upper Division, or a Second-Class Lower Division degree accompanied by a PhD.

Requirements for Professors and Associate Professors

Applicants for Professor and Associate Professor positions are expected to possess a PhD in the relevant field, with substantial teaching experience, research output and publications.

Requirements for Assistant Lecturers

Candidates seeking the Assistant Lecturer positions must possess a Master’s degree and have their PhD in progress.

They must also demonstrate evidence of teaching and research potential or relevant experience.

Requirement for Graduate Assistant

For the Graduate Assistant position, applicants must possess a first degree with at least a Second-Class Upper Division.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate adequate aptitude for teaching and/or research, while applicants with First-Class degrees are particularly encouraged to apply.

Requirements for Lecturer I and II

Applicants for the Lecturer I and II positions are expected to possess either a PhD or a Master’s degree with at least three years of teaching experience.

They must also have a minimum of three peer-reviewed publications.

How to Apply

Interested candidates are required to submit their applications through the university’s online application portal.

Applicants are expected to upload their application letter, detailed curriculum vitae and passport photograph.

The CV for teaching positions should contain detailed personal, academic, professional, employment, teaching and research information.

Applicants are also required to provide their Google Scholar and ORCID IDs, where applicable, as well as details of publications, research in progress, professional memberships, community service and the names and addresses of three referees.

At least one of the referees must be from the applicant’s current or most recent place of employment.

Referees are required to submit their confidential reports directly to the Registrar no later than one week after the closing date of the application.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further stages of the recruitment process.

Shortlisted applicants will be required to present the originals of their academic and professional certificates, NYSC certificate, birth certificate or age declaration, and evidence of state and local government of origin.
