Two Chinese men each bag 46-Years in Jail Over N3.4bn, $2.5m Cyber Fra¥d in Lagos

A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced two Chinese nationals, Huang Haoyu and An Hongxu, to 46 years’ imprisonment each for cybert%rrorism and internet fra¥d.

Justice Daniel Osiagor delivered the judgment on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. The convicts were among the 792 suspects arrested on December 19, 2024, during an EFCC operation tagged “Eagle Flush,” which targeted cryptocurrency, investment, and romance fraud in Lagos.

Investigations revealed that the group recruited Nigerian youths to pose as foreign nationals to defra¥d victims online. It was also discovered that Genting International Co. Ltd. was incorporated at the directive of Huang Haoyu to facilitate the illegal activities.

The defendants were arraigned alongside Friday Audu and Genting International Co. Ltd. by the EFCC on seven counts of cybert%rrorism, internet fra¥d, and money laundering involving N3.4 billion and $2.56 million.

They initially pleaded not guilty. However, at the resumed hearing, Haoyu and Hongxu changed their pleas to guilty, while Audu maintained his innocence.

Following their guilty pleas, the prosecution urged the court to impose the maximum sentence and order the forfeiture of items recovered during the investigation.

These included over 1,500 mobile phones, thousands of office and household items, computer systems, routers, generators, vehicles, SIM cards, and other electronic devices seized from multiple locations in Victoria Island and Ikoyi.

The court subsequently convicted and sentenced the two defendants, describing the offences as a serious thr+at to Nigeria’s economic and social stability.
