This is Bugesera International Airport, Rwanda’s flagship aviation project currently under construction by Urbacon Trading and Contracting at a cost of 2 billion dollars. Phase I, expected in 2028, will handle 7 million passengers annually, with capacity rising to 14 million passengers a year when the final phase is completed in 2032.
The project is backed by a strategic partnership between Qatar Airways and RwandAir, with Qatar set to hold a 60% stake. Rwanda has also committed significant funding, approving 499 million dollars in June 2025 to keep construction on track, underscoring Kigali’s ambition to position itself as a major regional aviation hub.
