TCN announces fresh power outage in parts of Abuja

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a fresh electricity outage affecting parts of Abuja on Wednesday.

TCN disclosed this in a notice issued on Wednesday, explaining that the outage followed the tripping of a 100MVA power transformer at the Apo 132kV/33kV Substation.

According to the company, oil spillage on the red-phase high-voltage (HV) bushing of the transformer caused the equipment to trip.

TCN said the incident affected four 33kV feeders, namely H31, H33, H35 and H37, resulting in a power outage in areas supplied by the affected feeders.

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, hereby informs the public that the 100MVA TR4 transformer at the 132/33kV Apo Transmission Substation tripped in the early hours of today.

“Our maintenance crew are already carrying out a detailed investigation on the transformer to ascertain the exact cause of the tripping, to enable us effect repairs and restore the transformer,” TCN stated.

Consequently, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company confirmed a power outage in areas of Abuja, including Apo Legislative Quarters, Lokogoma, Apo Resettlement and other parts of the nation’s capital.

Recall that TCN had announced a blackout in parts of Abuja over maintenance.
