Ribadu meets JD Vance, Marco Rubio over counterterrorism partnership

Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has held strategic discussions with United States Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, focusing on strengthening counterterrorism cooperation across West Africa.

The meeting, which was highlighted by the security-focused platform Secure Nigeria, is said to have reinforced ongoing security collaboration between Abuja and Washington in the fight against insurgency and transnational terrorism in the Sahel region.

According to the post, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to joint operations and intelligence sharing aimed at disrupting terrorist networks operating in the region.

The platform also claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed appreciation for continued United States support, including training and intelligence assistance provided under the administration of US President Donald Trump.

The statement further framed Nigeria as a key regional partner in counterterrorism efforts, particularly against groups such as Boko Haram and ISIS-affiliated cells, noting that the country remains central to security operations in West Africa.

Ribadu has in recent months led several high-level engagements with US officials, including visits to Washington, DC, and meetings with members of the US Congress, as part of broader efforts to deepen defence and intelligence cooperation.

The latest engagement comes amid sustained regional security challenges, with both governments signalling continued collaboration in intelligence sharing, training support, and counter-extremism operations.
