

The presidential candidate,l of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 elections, Peter Obi, will attend the burial of Pa Okaji Simon Okorie Abba, father of Chief Linus Okorie, NDC senatorial candidate of Ebonyi South for next year’s general election.
Okaji, a respected community leader, elder statesman, and educationist, died on November 14, 2025, at the age of 93 according to his burial programme announced Okorie.
He described his late father as a man of integrity, wisdom, and service whose contributions to education and community development would remain enduring legacies.
He said sobriquet “Patron Eguani” was earned by the late Patriarch through his lifelong commitment to the welfare and development of younger people in his community.
According to the burial programme, funeral activities of the late Okaji will commence with a Christian wake at Isiama Primary School, Onicha Igboeze in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State while funeral mass take place at the same venue on Friday, July 31, 2026, after which the remains of the elder statesman will be interred at his country home in Amokwe, Isiama, same day.
The late Okaji Simon Okorie Abaa is survived by several children, including Chief Linus Okorie, who represented Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo federal in the 7th and 8th National Assemblies.
Okorie served as Chairman, House Committee on Agricultural Institutions from August 2015 to June 2019 during his tenures in the House of Representatives
