Nottingham Forest 'encouraged' in Dean Henderson pursuit after talks

Nottingham Forest have been encouraged in their pursuit of Crystal Palace star Dean Henderson in the late stages of the transfer window.

The City Ground club have made a formal offer for the 29-year-old in recent days, which was quickly rebuffed by Crystal Palace, but they remain keen to do a deal.

Forest are believed to have held talks with the England international’s camp, leading to suggestons that the goalkeeper is keen to make the switch if a deal can be agreed.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Nottingham Forest made their first offer for Henderson because they believe there is a deal to be done.

Oliver Glasner is keen to reunite with his former shot-stopper as he aims to improve his squad ahead of the 1 September deadline, and work is being done towards that end.

However, Crystal Palace are extremely reluctant to lose Henderson and have no plans to entertain offers, regardless of whether the player is open to the move.

Could Nottingham Forest make another offer for Dean Henderson?

Nottingham Forest are not the only club to have shown an interest in Henderson this summer, as former Spurs scout Bryan King told Football Insider that Tottenham are also keen.

However, Forest are the only club who have made a move for the goalkeeper, with their intentions made clear alongside ongoing talks with the player’s representatives.

Despite having seen their first offer rejected by Crystal Palace, who have been clear on Henderson’s future, they could yet return with a fresh bid for his services.

“It’s an interesting one with Dean Henderson and Nottingham Forest,” Brown told Football Insider.

“There tends to be no smoke without fire for these things, so the fact they have made an offer to Crystal Palace, that suggests to me that they believe there is a deal to be done.

“Work will have already been done behind the scenes before the bid, so Forest will be speaking to his agent, and they will have been encouraged over the deal.

“Whether that means Henderson would be open to leaving, or his agent is trying to test the waters, it seems they have not ruled it out.

“Crystal Palace obviously don’t want to lose another of their best players, so they’ll be doing everything to ensure Henderson doesn’t leave, but Forest are clearly keen.

“Oliver Glasner will want to reunite with one of his former players, and his stance will be key for Forest, but it’s interesting to hear that they came forward with an offer.”

How do Crystal Palace feel about losing Henderson?

Nottingham Forest’s offer to sign Henderson was rejected swiftly by Crystal Palace, and while another offer could arrive in the coming hours, the Eagles have been clear.

Football Insider revealed on 30 August that Crystal Palace will reject any incoming offers for Henderson in the closing stages of the summer transfer window.

Glasner is believed to be the driving force behind the deal, given his strong relationship with his former captain, as he pushes to improve his squad before 1 September.

However, any attempts to lure Henderson away from Selhurst Park will prove futile, with Crystal Palace determined to keep hold of their best players for Pierre Sage.

Sources say Crystal Palace have been braced to receive offers for Henderson all summer, but have been clear he is not for sale, with two years left on his contract.
