Liverpool have now emerged as the odds-on favourites to secure the signing of Ismaila Sarr from Crystal Palace before the transfer window closes.
Reports on Wednesday indicated that the Reds had submitted a £50million bid for the 28-year-old winger.
Crystal Palace have since rejected his proposal, as they remain determined to keep hold of the Senegal international.
Nevertheless, one UK bookmaker has since slashed the odds of Liverpool completing the signing this summer down to 1/2.
The Reds are in the market for a winger this summer to replace Mohamed Salah, who departed at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.
This has seen the club linked to numerous attackers, including Bradley Barcola in recent months.
Liverpool may have to overspend to secure Ismaila Sarr signing
Liverpool now face a real issue in the transfer window.
The club’s inability to bring in a new winger means that if one is to come in now, they will likely have to overspend.
Sarr is no doubt a massively important player at Palace, and he could prove to be vital in both their Premier League and Europa League campaigns.
Therefore, given how late it is in the transfer window, the Eagles could refuse some tempting bids due to the little time they have left to get a replacement, which is shown in Fabrizio Romano’s report that the Reds’ £50m bid has been rejected.
As a result, if Liverpool want to bring in Sarr, they may have to dramatically overpay, which could come back to haunt them in the coming years.
Who else is in the race for Sarr?
Alongside Liverpool, a move to Turkey is not ruled out, with the odds of him going to any Turkish side at 3/1 odds.
After this, the odds of Sarr going to any Spanish side are also reasonably low at 6/1.
Following this, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Manchester United are also considered potential destinations at 8/1, in what could be a potential shock development before the end of the transfer window.
However, it remains to be seen where Sarr will be playing his football for the rest of the 2026-27 campaign, as speculation around his future refuses to die down at Selhurst Park.
