Lisandro Martinez will be offered a new long-term contract by Man United if he stays injury-free and has an impressive season, sources have told Football Insider.
United will not rush into a decision with Martinez this season, even as he approaches the final six months of his initial contract.
They can extend his deal by one year by triggering an automatic extension option, which is likely as he begins the campaign as a starter under Michael Carrick.
Martinez came into the side midway through last season after returning to full fitness just as Carrick was appointed as the Red Devils’ interim boss.
He will be handed improved terms and a longer extension to his deal if he can stay fit and keep his place in the starting eleven in the coming months.
He was a mainstay in the Argentina team as they reached the World Cup final over the summer and is likely to attract interest in January as clubs line up potential pre-contract agreements.

Martinez has made 112 appearances for United in the last four seasons, but missed over 100 games for club and country in that same timeframe.
He suffered a serious ACL tear against Crystal Palace in February 2025 which sidelined him for roughly eight months before he returned to action last season.
Martinez has admitted that the layoff made him consider retirement at just 27-years-old, but has since re-established himself as a regular for United and Argentina.
He is set for regular minutes at the heart of Carrick’s defence this season, with starts in their last two league outings against Ipswich and Everton.
