Lagos State Government will continue to explore avenues for collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to maximise opportunities provided by the scheme and deliver greater dividends.

The state Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance on Friday at the commencement of an orientation course for the 2026 Batch A, Stream Two, corps members deployed to Lagos.

The event took place at the NYSC temporary orientation camp, Iyana-Ipaja.

Sanwo-Olu was represented by the state Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende.

`The commencement of this one-year national service calls to mind the selfless contributions of your predecessors in key sectors – health, education and social services,” he said.

He urged the corps members to strictly adhere to camp rules and regulations.

“The success of your service year depends largely on the foundation laid during the orientation course.

He charged the batch to participate actively the orientation activities particularly in the Skills Acquisition Entrepreneurship Development.

”It is structured to empower you towards self-reliance,” he said.

The Lagos State Coordinator of the scheme, Mrs Christiana Salmwang, said that the orientation course would equip the corps members with skills and values needed for the service.

Salmwang noted that the three-week orientation course was a statutory requirement and demanded discipline and commitment.

The coordinator said that the orientation programme was designed to prepare the corps members physically and mentally for the demands of national service.

She highlighted improvements at the camp, including renovation of hostels, upgrade of sanitation facilities, and a refurbishment of a multipurpose hall.

She said that the improvements were aimed at ensuring a safer and more conducive environment.

“I sincerely commend the Lagos State Government under the leadership of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu for unwavering support.

“The intervention underscores the state’s commitment to youth development and continued success of NYSC scheme in Lagos,” she added.

Salmwang urged the corps members to actively participate in all camp activities, respect diversity, build meaningful relationships, and use the service year to contribute positively to national development.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the corps members took oath of allegiance administered by the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, who was represented by Justice Akingbola George. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
