He said : “Firstly, Prof. Amupitan served as Head of Department, Public Law, University of Jos, he later served as the longest serving Dean of Faculty of law in the same University and after that, he was appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, of the University.
“Prof. Amupitan is a man of value and we value him. I want to tell Nigerians to allow him to do his job and by the grace of God, we know that he is going to succeed”.
According to him, the allegations that the INEC Boss is Partisan, is baseless and untrue, saying, as a Legal Luminary, he understands the sanctity of his office.
He therefore urged him to remain focused and deliver a free, fair and transparent election for Nigerians, come 2027 .
In the same vein, the Youth Leader of the Community, Comrade Elijah Babatunde enjoined Prof. Amupitan not to be distracted by the activities of non State Actors, but remain focused , and carryout his official duty in line with the Electoral Act and Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
The Youth Leader maintained that the calls for the resignation or sack of Head of the Electoral Umpire is not new to contemporary Nigerians, contending that linking the present INEC Chairman to a Political Party is a ploy to distract him from performing his official assignment.
“The Prof. Joash Amupitan that we know is a man of integrity and will never compromise standard. He is not a Politician, he is a neutral person who was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to head the Commission”, he said .
Also, the Okun Development Association (ODA), the umbrella socio-cultural organisation of the Yoruba people in Kogi State has urged Nigerians to grant Prof. Amupitan the calm and institutional space needed to serve the nation with neutrality, courage and desired result.
The body described the appointment of Professor Amupitan as “a clear endorsement of competence and character, and as a call to national service, anchored on merit”.
It added that ODA is mindful that the office of INEC Chairman will always attract intense public scrutiny, noting that such scrutiny is part of democracy.
“we respectfully remind all stakeholders, political actors, and concerned citizens that Nigeria’s constitutional order provides established channels for resolving disputes”.
“We therefore urge any aggrieved parties to ventilate their concerns through the appropriate legal and institutional mechanisms.
“We call for restraint in public commentary and ask all Nigerians to grant Prof. Amupitan the calm and institutional space needed to serve the nation with neutrality, courage and desired result”
