A Civil Society Organisation, Action for Accountability and Good Governance, has called on stakeholders to support the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan.
The President of the organisation, Prince Peter Bassey, made the call on Wednesday at a press conference in Abuja.
He said Amupitan has demonstrated competence, transparency, credibility and integrity in the discharge of his constitutional mandate under Section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution.

The group expressed confidence in the leadership of INEC, describing it as competent and trustworthy.
It said Amupitan brings to the role the discipline of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), the rigour of a scholar, and the neutrality of a public servant.
Bassey said his open and inclusive leadership style has helped restore public confidence in the electoral process both locally and internationally.
“We call on all stakeholders—political parties, civil society groups, the media, and citizens—to support Prof. Amupitan and the commission as preparations continue for future elections,” he said.
