Coventry City 'working really hard' to finalise Fikayo Tomori reunion -'Something tells me'

Frank Lampard is pushing for Coventry City to seal a move for out-of-favour AC Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori this summer.

That is according to former Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the Sky Blues’ boss is working behind the scenes to try and strike a deal

Tomori is out of contract at Milan in June 2027, and the Italian giants are now ready to sell him, as he is not in their plans for the upcoming season.

Wyness emphasised that Coventry will need “talismen” if they are to stay in the Premier League next season, and feels Tomori could be a good fit for them.

The 28-year-old made 33 appearances in Serie A last term, and has also been linked with a move to Newcastle United in recent days.

The former Chelsea man previously played under Lampard at Stamford Bridge, and also played a key role in his Derby County side during a loan spell back in 2018-19.

Fikayo Tomori may see himself above Coventry

Villa’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a consultancy business advising elite clubs – believes that Tomori may set his sights higher than Coventry when it comes to his next move.

The England international has gained regular Champions League experience in recent years, and Wyness believes he will be keen to avoid a likely relegation battle next term.

Nevertheless, he stressed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast that Lampard is working hard to tempt him to the CBS Arena.

“I think just something tells me that Lampard might be trying really hard behind the scenes to get this one done,” Wyness said.

“Coventry will need something to try and strengthen in some way, and they need some talismen as well.

“Tomori is a reasonable player. I don’t think he’s a world-beater, but he’s certainly up there. I think he could do that job for them at Coventry.

“In the end, think if Newcastle don’t come to the party, he will end up at Coventry with Lampard.”

Coventry line up fresh Carl Rushworth bid

Former Coventry assistant manager Mick Brown told Football Insider earlier this week that the Sky Blues will return with a renewed offer for Brighton goalkeeper Carl Rushworth.

The shot-stopper remains Lampard’s “top target” this summer after an eye-catching loan spell last term.

Coventry saw their opening offer of £20million knocked back by the Seagulls, but Brown believes that their next attempt to sign him is just around the corner.

Brown outlined that Lampard and Co. are “determined” to make the deal happen, and questioned where they would be able to get a better goalkeeper in the current market.
