The Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) has appointed Chioma Ikejiani as the National Chair of the National Coalition of Cancer Survivors (NCCS), succeeding the late Professor Ronald Bejide, in a move aimed at strengthening advocacy and support systems for cancer survivors across Nigeria.

The appointment underscores Ikejiani’s leadership credentials, extensive expertise and long standing commitment to advancing cancer care and survivorship.

This was contained in a  statement signed by Bashir Mohammed, RANCCAS

National Director of Publicity, NCS in Abuja on  Monday.

A 10 year Stage 4 breast cancer survivor, she is widely regarded as a leading voice in oncology reform, drawing from both professional experience and personal resilience.

Before her elevation, Ikejiani chaired the Cancer Health Fund (CHF) Fact-Finding Committee under the NCS, where she led a comprehensive, multi-stakeholder review of Nigeria’s cancer funding framework. Her work resulted in the development of the Integrated, Real Time Financial Liquidity Protocol (IRFLP), a reform initiative designed to improve funding efficiency, transparency and sustainability in cancer treatment. She also introduced an “Enforced Transparency” framework to enhance accountability and data integrity across the system.

She has also served as Strategic Liaison and Lead Patient Advocate for the Cancer Health Fund at the National Hospital Abuja, collaborating with key institutions such as the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT) and the Federal Ministry of Health to resolve funding bottlenecks, facilitate reimbursements and ensure uninterrupted access to treatment for patients.

Beyond health advocacy, Ikejiani has built a distinguished career spanning media, real estate and public engagement. She is the Executive Producer and Host of “The Survivor’s Desk,” a platform focused on health education and cancer awareness and previously led productions under AMOI Productions and State House Media, including the AMOI Unplugged series.

Her entrepreneurial portfolio includes founding AMOI Magazine and co-founding Sway Magazine in Canada, the country’s first Black lifestyle publication, later acquired by Torstar Media. Earlier in her career, she ranked among the top 1% of luxury real estate professionals in Canada.

A recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal, Ikejiani holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Political Science from St. Mary’s University, Canada and has remained active in high level policy engagements, including initiatives under the Office of the First Lady of Nigeria.

Her appointment is expected to further amplify the voice of cancer survivors while advancing reforms toward equitable access to quality cancer care nationwide
