BREAKING: Fubara pulls out of APC governorship primaries

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has announced his withdrawal from the governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scheduled for Thursday.

In a personally signed statement titled “My decision to withdraw from the Rivers State Gubernatorial Primaries”, Fubara said the decision followed deep reflection and consultations with family, friends and political associates.

He stated that he would now support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate, stressing that leadership sometimes requires personal sacrifice for the greater good of the state.

“After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC gubernatorial primaries. I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party,” he said.

Fubara added that Rivers State must remain the priority over individual ambition, noting that peace, unity and stability were more important at this time.

“Leadership is ultimately about sacrifice. There comes a time when personal ambition must yield to the greater good of the people. Rivers State is bigger than any individual,” he said.

The governor also expressed gratitude to his supporters and the APC leadership for their backing throughout the process, while acknowledging the disappointment his withdrawal may cause among his loyalists.

He further appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his encouragement, and reaffirmed commitment to the APC as a platform for political engagement.

Fubara maintained that his decision was not driven by weakness or pressure, but by conviction and a desire to ensure peace and unity in Rivers State.

He added that he remains committed to serving the people of the state until the end of his tenure.
