Earlier this week, Argentina vowed to use all legal and diplomatic means at its disposal to stop work on an oil development project in the waters off the Falkland Islands. The move marks the latest escalation in the recently revived dispute over the British overseas territory, 44 years after Argentina and the U.K. went to war over the islands.
Tensions resurfaced in early September, when Argentine President Javier Milei used a televised address to the nation to blast the oil drilling project just north of the islands, which lie about 300 miles from the Argentine mainland. Buenos Aires calls the islands the Malvinas and has never accepted British sovereignty over them.
