The Amateur Basketball Academies (ABA) will this weekend, continue its nationwide grassroots basketball development initiative.
ABA Board led by its President, Deputy Comptroller, Nigeria Customs Service, Aliyu Lucky Abubakar, will arrive Jalingo, the capital city of Taraba state on Saturday for one day training of academies’ coaches.
This comes after the success recorded at the just concluded ” Team Work ” clinic in Makurdi, Benue State, where 11 coaches from eight academies participated in a one-day coaching clinic.
The Jalingo clinic, tagged “Drive”, will be the fourth in the series of ABA’s nationwide coaching programme since it’s commencement in June in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory and later moved to Minna, Niger State.
The initiative by ABA, in conjunction with the Taraba State Basketball Association, is to further strengthen grassroots basketball development as well as identify emerging talents and equip academy coaches.
This will also assist the coaches opportunity updating themselves with basketball new rules, coaching techniques, and tactical knowledge in line with global best practices.
DC Aliyu Abubakar said that apart from the initiative helps in Grassroots development, it also assists in coaches education, structured training systems, athlete mentorship, and long-term developmental programs.
“ABA strongly believes that the future of Nigerian basketball begins at the grassroots level. We believe every community court can produce champions. We believe every trainer can become a transformational leader. We believe every child deserves an opportunity to dream through sports,” he stated.
The ABA coaching crew of Coach Daudu Adeka, Emmanuel Odah, Alex Ujoh, and Coach Oyekan Oyedeji will move to Gombe on Monday, next week for the continuation of the clinic.
