Christogonus Chidi Unezeh, a politician, has said that he would remain connected to his constituents, the people of Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area, to enable him to focus on his priorities if he wins the Aboh Mbaise State Constituency, Imo House of Assembly, in the coming elections.
In an interview with BDSunday, he disclosed the areas his quality representation will focus on to ensure even development for the local government
According to Unezeh, his responsible legislative agenda will focus attention on areas such as: community development and infrastructure, youth empowerment and opportunities, education and human capital development, support for agriculture and local enterprise, women empowerment, healthcare and social welfare, effective representation and accountability, and advocacy for projects and programmes that will be of benefit to the people.
The priorities, according to him, require committed representation, constructive engagement with government institutions and constant communication with constituents.
But some people who spoke to BDSunday and did not want their names in print said that with Unezeh in the Imo House of Assembly, the local government is going to have a “strong new voice, a new vision, and a renewed commitment” as has never been seen before.
Anthony Opara, a community leader and a businessman, described Unezeh as a grassroots-oriented politician who always listens to the voice of the people.
“At a time when constituents expect their representatives to be accessible, responsive and accountable, Unezeh represents a commitment to people-focused representation and responsible leadership,” Franklin Onyedikachi, a public commentator and technocrat, said in a telephone chat with BDSunday.
Meanwhile, Unezeh has stated that his “aspiration is built around the desire to provide purposeful representation, strengthen the connection between the people and government, and promote a legislative agenda that responds to the real needs of the people of Aboh Mbaise.
However, the APGA candidate said that he will always listen to his constituents, saying that “representation is more than occupying a seat in the State House of Assembly. It is about listening to the people, understanding their challenges and ensuring that their concerns receive proper attention”.
He stated that he believes that the voices of the people of Aboh Mbaise must remain at the centre of legislative representation.
“From the needs of our communities to the aspirations of our youths, women, farmers, traders, professionals and other hardworking citizens, every constituency deserves representation that remains connected to the people.
“Aboh Mbaise is a community with a rich history, strong people and enormous potential; moving the constituency forward will require unity, cooperation and a shared commitment to progress”.
He noted that his candidacy is an opportunity to bring people together around a vision of representation that places the interest of Aboh Mbaise above personal differences.
Stressing that politics should ultimately be about service to the people, and leadership should be measured by responsibility, accessibility, integrity and the ability to advance the interests of the community.
The candidacy, Unezeh said, is about building stronger connections between the people and government and ensuring that the aspirations and concerns of Aboh Mbaise State Constituency receive meaningful representation at the Imo State House of Assembly.
