Okowa visits EFCC Lagos office amid ongoing alleged N1.3 Trillion probe

Former Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, on Monday visited the Lagos office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misappropriation during his tenure.

Sources within the commission told Very Nigerian that the visit was linked to allegations surrounding the alleged diversion of about N1.3 trillion during his eight years in office as governor of Delta State.

Okowa was previously arrested by the anti-graft agency in November 2024 over similar allegations, including claims of diversion of public funds and acquisition of properties in Asaba and Abuja.

The former governor has consistently denied wrongdoing, insisting that funds belonging to the state were properly managed during his administration. He also dismissed the allegations as part of a “media trial,” maintaining that he is not afraid of investigation.

“I am not worried… I am not afraid to be investigated,” he had said earlier, while acknowledging that he “may not be a saint” but acted in good faith while in office.

Okowa served as governor of Delta State from 2015 to 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and was the party’s vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 election alongside Atiku Abubakar.

He later defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in April 2025 alongside his successor, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and other political stakeholders in the state.

The EFCC has not issued an official detailed statement on the outcome of Monday’s visit.
