APC sweeps two legislative seats in Kano

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured victory in the two legislative by-elections held in Kano Municipal and Ungogo local government areas of Kano State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the APC candidates, Nabil Aliyu Daneji and Aminu Sa’ad Sa’ad, as winners of the polls conducted to fill vacant seats in the Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies, respectively.

Announcing the result for Kano Municipal, Returning Officer, Professor Ibrahim Tajo Siraj, said Daneji polled 7,484 votes to defeat eight other contestants after the collation of results from the affected polling units.

In Ungogo constituency, Returning Officer, Professor Ali Tijjani Abdullahi, declared Sa’ad winner after he secured 8,975 votes, defeating all other candidates in the race. Abdullahi noted that the outcome reflected the will of the electorate and commended political parties, observers, and voters for their cooperation during the exercise.

Meanwhile, the Kwankwasiyya movement has reacted to the outcome, stating that the two APC candidates were initially nominated by the national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, before they defected to the APC.

In a statement issued by its spokesman, Habibu Sale Mohammed, the group explained that Kwankwaso supported the nomination of the candidates as a tribute to their fathers, who died on the same day while serving as NNPP lawmakers in the Kano State House of Assembly.

According to the statement, the decision was intended to honour their memory and recognise their contributions and sacrifices to the party.
