How Celtic fans inside Parkhead reacted to news of Motherwell’s late equaliser vs Rangers

New footage of Celtic fans celebrating Motherwell’s late equaliser against Rangers at Parkhead has emerged on social media.

Celtic and Rangers have toiled behind Hearts for the majority of the Scottish Premiership campaign so far, with both clubs aiming to get within touching distance of the league leaders before it is too late.

Martin O’Neill’s side hosted 12th-placed Livingston at Parkhead on Wednesday, but made hard work of it with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scoring an added-time winner on his debut for the club to seal a 2-1 victory.

Their arch-rivals were battling towards all three points at Motherwell in the meantime, but things went pear-shaped for Rangers in the closing stages at Fir Park.

Celtic loanee Stephen Welsh, of all players, popped up with an equaliser in the 89th minute to snatch a point for the Steelmen, leaving Gers fans dejected and Hoops supporters buzzing.

Celtic fans sing Martin O’Neill’s name after Stephen Welsh’s equaliser

Celtic kicked off against Livingston 15 minutes earlier than Rangers at Motherwell, meaning the last of their fans were filtering out of Parkhead when news of a late Welsh strike emerged.

The two results mean Celtic are now just one point behind the Gers in third, with a game in hand, and Daily Record Sport reporter Ryan McDonald filmed a clip of their fans celebrating the Motherwell goal from the Parkhead press box.

He took to X to post the video, which showed fans signing ‘Martin O’Neill’s green and white army’, alongside the caption: “News of Motherwell’s last minute equaliser against Rangers has gone down well at Celtic Park…

Celtic fans were not happy with Reo Hatate’s performance vs Livingston

While the Hoops supporters were pleased with their rivals dropping points in the race for the title, their own performance as a team left a lot to be desired against a bottom-of-the-table Livingston side.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was the hero as he popped up with the all-important winner late on, and he spared Hatate‘s blushes after he was responsible for the reason they were so close to being held to a draw.

Hatate was slammed by Celtic fans after he gave away a penalty for a clear foul on Robbie Muirhead in the 56th minute, as the visitors’ striker then scored to make it 1-1.

He failed to make an impact after replacing the injured Arne Engels, and many supporters have called upon O’Neill to snub him for game time as the business end of the season commences soon.
