The Nigeria Police Force has trained 56 officers and approved the establishment of new counter-terrorism bases in Adamawa, Cross River and Ogun states as part of efforts to strengthen its response to security threats.
The training programme, organised for personnel of the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), was conducted in collaboration with the British High Commission in Nigeria through the Office of the Counter Terrorism Regional Coordinator for West Africa.
According to a statement issued by outgoing police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, the two-week programme focused on Close Quarter Battle and Intelligence Analysis and involved 56 officers drawn from CTU formations across the country.
The participants were exposed to contemporary counter-terrorism tactics, intelligence analysis, and operational strategies aimed at improving coordinated responses to terrorism, banditry and other serious crimes.
Speaking at the closing ceremony held at the Peacekeeping Conference Hall of the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Ian Tyler, a lieutenant colonel at the Office of the Counter Terrorism Regional Coordinator for West Africa, British High Commission, commended the officers for their professionalism and urged them to apply the knowledge gained during the training in the field.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, represented by Akoh Gabriel, an assistant inspector general (AIG) in charge of the CTU, said the training reflects the commitment of the police leadership to continually improve the operational capacity of officers to address evolving security threats.
As part of the measures, the police chief approved the establishment of new CTU bases in Madagali (Adamawa), Ikot Odo (Cross River), and Ode-Remo (Ogun).
The police also approved the deployment of additional CTU personnel to strategic locations across the country to strengthen rapid response capability and improve operational coverage.
