'Yes' – Expert: Man City backed to complete Guehi deal after 'agreement'

Man City could be in pole position to secure the signing of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, after Josko Gvardiol’s injury blow sustained against Chelsea.

Ruben Dias also picked up an injury against the Blues, meaning Pep Guardiola was forced to start 20-year-old Max Alleyne in defence against Brighton, with John Stones unavailable.

Man City are ready to submit an offer for Guehi after securing a verbal agreement, with the defender set to leave Crystal Palace in January ahead of his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Marc Guehi to Man City ‘could well happen’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – thinks Man City‘s injuries will make a deal for Guehi more likely.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness believes Guehi will get “what he wanted” if he moves to the Etihad.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well, I mean, yes, the injury was a big thing, wasn’t it the broken leg to Gvardiol. That could be a big one for them.

“So, yes, I could see it happening. And Man City can certainly pounce. I think Guehi might like that move himself. There’s no doubt he is sought after, but why not come into a team like City, where you’re guaranteed pretty much European football now and Champions League. It’s what he wanted.

“Wouldn’t have to leave the UK, it might suit him. I don’t know enough about his own personal situation as to what he thinks or what his family think about moving overseas. We know he’s sought after by many clubs. He’s got his pick. But yeah, I think it could well happen. So it was the injury that made me think that would be the thing that could actually twist it over the line. So yes, I think it could happen.”

Crystal Palace reveal Guehi valuation

Crystal Palace could accept offers between £30million and £35m for Guehi, to ensure the 25-year-old does not leave on a free at the end of the season.

Liverpool and Real Madrid are both interested in Guehi, with the England international set to have a host of clubs to choose from.

Guehi has only missed one Premier League match for the Eagles this season, helping Oliver Glasner’s side keep eight clean sheets.
