Viktor Gyokeres could be set to break a record set by an Arsenal fan-favourite following his superb brace against Tottenham on Sunday.
Eberechi Eze came back to haunt Spurs on 22 February, netting a brace after his hat-trick in the reverse fixture back in November, securing the exact same result at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Gyokeres was in on the action this time, though, beating Guglielmo Vicario twice in the second half to destroy any chance of a comeback during Igor Tudor’s first game in charge of the Lilywhites.
Neither were they lucky goals, either. Both were fine finishes, punishing Arsenal‘s bitter rivals in North London, and keeping their five-point gap at the top of the Premier League table.

Viktor Gyokeres was more than just a goalscorer in the North London derby
Of course, Man City have a game in hand, with the two giants yet to meet at the Etihad Stadium, but it was a huge moment in the title race, and one that could shape the remaining fixtures.
It was the perfect moment for the Gunners’ £55million signing to step up, notching his 14th and 15th goals of the 2025-26 campaign across all competitions, with another two assists to his name.
But it was more than just two goals from the 27-year-old. In 90 minutes, he created one big chance, had four shots, completed 100 per cent of his dribbles, entered into 11 duels and committed three fouls [FotMob].
There have been so many doubts, not just from Premier League rivals, but also those at the Emirates Stadium, who have questioned the striker’s signing after struggles in other matches.
However, he has just proven all those doubters wrong.

Arsenal star could be about to break record set by Alexandre Lacazette
According to Squawka, Gyokeres’ 15 goals are the most by a player in their debut season for the Gunners in all competitions since Alexandre Lacazette in the 2017-18 campaign, who bagged 17.
That is an incredible return for a signing who is being accused of not yet adapting to life in England, and one that should instantly silence those who are questioning his credentials.
His first season was always going to be a slow-burner, having only ever had one impressive season in England with Coventry City, but he is truly beginning to find his feet with the Gunners.
Supporters finally saw vintage Gyokeres, and what a time for him to pull out a performance like that.
