Anambra governor’s wife urges increased women empowerment

Wife of the Anambra State governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has urged greater empowerment of women nationwide.

She stated that strengthening women would build a stronger society and place the nation in safer hands.

Mrs Soludo spoke on Friday at the 2026 Anambra Women’s Summit organised by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) at the party’s regional office in Awka.

The founder of the Healthy Living Initiative said women deserved greater empowerment because they were trustworthy and capable of handling responsibilities with diligence and care.

She said, “Women are unique beings — intelligent, strong, hardworking, truthful and positive. We must celebrate ourselves every day in a special way.”

Speaking on the theme, ‘Empower Her, Elevate All,’ Mrs Soludo said true empowerment begins with self-realisation, self-motivation and determination to succeed.

She urged women to acquire skills and engage in productive ventures rather than relying solely on external support.

Mrs Soludo noted that the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo had prioritised women empowerment, creating opportunities based on competence rather than gender.

She also encouraged women to remain active in community development and revive communal values that promote unity and collective responsibility.

“We must always be our brother’s keeper. Things are going wrong now because we hardly care for each other,” she added.

Mrs Soludo advised women to prioritise their health, stressing the importance of proper nutrition, exercise, hydration and mental wellbeing.

“Take care of yourself, eat healthy, exercise and drink water. Health is the greatest wealth. Be intentional about protecting your physical and mental health,” she said.

She highlighted economic, educational, health and social empowerment, presenting cash support and empowerment materials to some participants.

The governor’s wife added that collective action among women could influence government policies and programmes.

Also speaking, Seahorse Company Chief Executive Officer, Ebuka Onunkwo, said the summit aimed to equip women with knowledge and skills for self-reliance and leadership.

Onunkwo urged participants to demonstrate good character and remain supportive of the Soludo administration.

The state APGA Women Leader, Esther Onyekezi, thanked contributors to the summit and reaffirmed women’s support for the Soludo administration and the party.

The event featured a march past by APGA women from the state’s 21 local government areas, with winners receiving cash prizes and gift items.
