Oyo police probe man’s viral claim of killing 32 people

The Oyo State Police Command has launched an investigation after a video surfaced showing an individual, identified as Shawama, claiming to have killed 32 people.

The police said there is no record of Shawama being arrested by its operatives at any time.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, in a statement on Tuesday, said the Command was taking the claims seriously.

“As a responsible and responsive agency, the Command has launched a thorough investigation into the allegations and the confessional statements contained in the video.

“The investigation is being conducted leveraging advanced technology, including digital forensics and digital footprint analysis, to ensure a robust and credible outcome,” the statement read.

The police also appealed to members of the public with information that could help identify Shawama or any accomplices.

“The Command further appeals to members of the public with information that can lead to the identification and arrest of Shawama or his accomplices to come forward and assist law enforcement in bringing them to justice,” Olayinka said.

He assured the public that updates on the investigation’s progress and outcome would be shared in due course.

In the video, which was recorded in Yoruba, Shawama can be heard saying, “When they wanted to misbehave in Ibadan, I killed 32.”

He also claimed that security agencies had freed and commended him for the killings.

The video featured other individuals who voiced support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election. “Even without elections, you have won,” they said.
