The Jigawa State Police Command has launched a crime-free campaign aimed at ensuring peaceful and safe Christmas and New Year festivities across the state.
This was disclosed in a statement made available to journalists by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Shi’isu Adam, on Saturday in Dutse, the state capital.
According Adam, the campaign, tagged “Crime-Free Christmas Campaign/Sensitisation,” was carried out simultaneously across all Divisional Police Headquarters in the state, following a directive by the Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad.
The PPRO’s statement reads, “The campaign aimed to sensitise the public on the dangers and consequences of social vices and criminal activities, including cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime, and vandalism.”
Adam highlighted that during the campaign, “All Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) mobilised officers, stakeholders, youths, and community members within their Areas of Responsibility (AORs) to participate in the campaign.”
He further outlined the main threats tackled during the sensitization drives, specifying, “The sessions zeroed in on pressing issues like cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime, vandalism, mob action, alleged witchcraft practices, footprint tracing, gender-based violence, and other related social vices.”
“These were the key areas of focus to educate communities on the dangers they pose to our festive peace,” Adam stated.
The PPRO explained that Divisional Police Officers received clear instructions to connect with faith leaders, noting the emphasis on reaching out to pastors and church leadership to build stronger bonds.
“DPOs were directed to engage with religious leaders, including pastors and church leadership, to strengthen police-community partnerships and ensure peaceful celebrations,” he quoted from the command’s guidelines.
Detailing the approach taken in these outreach efforts, Adam described how dialogues with religious figures aimed to foster better ties between police and residents.
“Interactive sessions were held with religious leaders to promote community-oriented policing and encourage cooperation between law enforcement and the public,” the PPRO affirmed, underscoring the value of such talks.
Adam also reiterated the force’s ongoing dedication and emphasised the broader goals of tackling crime while upholding societal values.
“The Jigawa State Police Command remains committed to fighting criminality and promoting peace, justice, and lawful conduct across the state,” he stated.
The PPRO called on parents, guardians, religious leaders, traditional leaders, youths, and the general public to support the command in its efforts. He encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through emergency communication channels.
The PPRO assured the people of Jigawa State of the command’s adequate security deployment throughout the festive period and beyond.
