UK Court Jails Nigerian Man for Six Years Over S+xual As+ault of Two Women on Train
A man who s+xually a+sa¥lted two females on a train, including trapping one victim inside a toilet, has been sentenced to prison.
Daniel Odubanjo att@cked the victims while travelling on a train from Shenfield to Chelmsford in Essex on 29 November 2024. One victim was 21 years old, while the other was 17.
According to police, Odubanjo repeatedly banged on a locked train toilet door and forced his way inside when the woman opened it. He pushed her back into the toilet, locked the door, restrained her wrists and s+xually a+sa¥lted her.
The victim attempted to escape and sought help from other passengers, but Odubanjo dragged her back into the toilet and continued the a+sa¥lt as she screamed. Police said he only released her after she falsely claimed to be 14 years old in an attempt to stop the att@ck. She later left the train at Chelmsford.
Shortly afterwards, Odubanjo approached a 17-year-old girl, asked her inappropriate questions and exposed himself. Although the teenager moved closer to other passengers and reported his behaviour, Odubanjo returned, sat beside her and s+xually a+sa¥lted her. A nearby passenger intervened and restrained him.
British Transport Police officers arrested Odubanjo when the train stopped at Hatfield Peverel.
The 27-year-old, from King Avenue in Clapham, south London, was found guilty of false imprisonment and two counts of s+xual a+sa¥lt. He was sentenced to six years in prison at Chelmsford Crown Court and handed a s+xual harm prevention order. He was also banned from being under the influence of alc%hol or dr¥gs while on public transport or railway property.
