
- Yusuf is NAHCON’s CEO, Abubakar-Sadiq now INEC’s commissioner
The Senate yesterday confirmed the nomination of former Kebbi State Governor Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman for appointment as a non-career ambassador.
The Red Chamber also okayed Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf as the Chairman/CEO of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
This followed the Senate’s adoption of the recommendations of its Committee on Foreign Affairs, chaired by Senator Abubakar Sani Bello (APC, Niger North).
Also, after due consideration of the report of its Committee on Electoral Matters, the Senate confirmed the nomination of Rear Admiral Jamila Abubakar-Sadiq (retd.), representing the Northeast, for appointment as National Electoral Commissioner (NEC) for Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The report was presented by the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Simon Lalong (APC, Plateau South).
Also, the Senate adjourned plenary till Tuesday, March 3, to enable the lawmakers observe the upcoming Sallah and Easter holidays.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced that legislative work would continue at the committee level.
He said the report of the 2026 Appropriations Bill should be ready for passage upon resumption.
