Manchester United welcome Newcastle United to Old Trafford in the Premier League on Boxing Day, with full details on how to watch the match below
Everything you need to know about the Manchester United vs Newcastle United:
- Breaking with long-standing tradition, Manchester United vs Newcastle will be the only Premier League game played on Boxing Day this year. The competition chose to reschedule the other nine fixtures to December 27 and 28 to help manage player workload and ease festive congestion.
- Viewers in the UK can follow the action live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League, as the match begins at 8pm. Live coverage is due to get underway from 7pm.
- Subscribers are able to watch the game live using the Sky Go app across mobile, tablet, and laptop devices. Those without a subscription can instead buy a NOW Sports Day Membership, allowing them to watch live without a long-term commitment.
- Should United secure all three points, they would climb into fifth position in the league table. Any other result could leave them up to six points off the Champions League places.
- Newcastle could leapfrog the Red Devils with a win. A defeat would leave them languishing in the bottom half, but a draw could pull them into the top half on goal difference, albeit temporarily.
- Recent history favours Newcastle, who have won five of their last six meetings with United. They also boast a 100 per cent record against Amorim’s United, having triumphed 4-1 in April and 2-0 in December last year.
- Even so, United have an excellent Boxing Day record when facing the Magpies. The teams have met three times on December 26 over the past 13 years, and on each occasion the Red Devils came out on top (they also played on December 27 in 2019, although that contest ended as a draw).
- Both clubs approach this fixture without a victory from their last two league matches. United suffered defeat to Aston Villa and drew against Bournemouth, while Newcastle shared points with Chelsea after losing to local rivals Sunderland.
