So This Happened (EP 367) reviews: Lekki landlady drags tenant to court over expired rent

A Lekki landlady has taken her tenant to court over refusal to vacate a four-bedroom terrace duplex after his rent allegedly expired in April 2025. She is demanding possession of the property and millions in arrears and damages.

The case, now before a Lagos Magistrate Court, has reignited conversations around tenant rights, rent defaults, and landlord-tenant disputes in Lagos.

  1. The landlady should have given him minimum of three months to renew. Though tenant who’s not able to renew his rent should vacant the building. In my compound same in Lekki we have our rent to renew yet the landlady said we should vacant the house in 7days and we are already taking the matter to court for our right of staying six months without paying.

  2. Was that a drama 🎬?
