Lagos CAN inaugurates Secretariat in honor of first Lady Oluremi Tinubu

After nearly 30 years without a permanent home, the Lagos State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has officially named its secretariat after First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.

The building, now called the “Senator Oluremi Tinubu CAN Lagos State Secretariat,” is located in Alausa, Ikeja.

Its inauguration was announced in a statement shared with Very Nigerian on Tuesday and was formally declared open by CAN’s National President, Daniel Okoh.

Okoh praised the Lagos State chapter for its dedication, saying the completion of the secretariat reflects their perseverance and commitment over the years.

“I urge all members to remain united and dedicated to the work of Christian leadership in Lagos State,” the CAN President concluded.

In a goodwill message delivered by the representative of the First Lady, Mrs Tinubu said, “The completion of the secretariat ends years of dispute over the land and marks the beginning of a new chapter for Christians in Lagos State.”

A floor of the newly completed complex was dedicated in honour of Iya Aladura General, Dr Oluwaseye Yomi-Sholoye, in recognition of her significant financial support for the project.

The cleric, who is the founder of The New Seraph Evangelical Ministries, described the structure as a “fit home” for Christian leadership in Lagos State.

“For about three decades, CAN did not have a befitting secretariat. Today, we have a beautiful structure that will lift the work of God to the next level. It is God’s doing,” Yomi-Sholoye said.

It was stated that the edifice was completed under the chairmanship of His Lordship Rt. Rev. S.T.V. Adegbite, with the foundation laid on February 17, 2024.

Among Christian leaders present at the event was the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Alfred Adewale Martins, alongside clerics from various denominations.

The complex houses multiple structures named after notable personalities, including the main office block named after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Bishop Stephen Adegbite Hall and Event Centre, and the CAN Chairman’s office named after Senator Tokunbo Abiru.

Speaking at the event, Rt. Rev. Adegbite said, “This secretariat is a symbol of unity and administrative strength. It belongs to all Christians in Lagos State. I urge members to take ownership of the facility and ensure its proper maintenance.”

The Lagos CAN secretariat joins a growing list of public institutions and projects named after the First Lady since the inauguration of President Bola Tinubu in May 2023.

Others include Senator Oluremi Tinubu Renewed Hope Resettlement City, Keffi, Nasarawa State, Senator Oluremi Tinubu Dream Centre at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and Oluremi Tinubu Leather Hub, Lagos.

Following the commissioning, CAN Lagos held its 2026 Annual Interdenominational Divine Service themed “Immanuel: God With Us” (Matthew 1:23) at The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Olorunda, Ketu. At the service, Rev. Dr. Ezekiel Omidina urged Christians to remain steadfast amid economic and social challenges, while prayers were offered for peace, unity, and national development.

The unveiling of the secretariat consolidates CAN Lagos operations under a permanent structure for the first time in nearly 30 years.
