Nollywood filmmaker Kunle Afolayan got deeply personal at his movie watch party as he spoke about family, roots, and the unconventional life that shaped him.
The award-winning director said he never chases shadows and never forgets where he comes from, explaining that whenever he looks around, he sees his father everywhere. According to him, without his father, there would be no KAP Village and no Kunle Afolayan.
Kunle revealed that he is the seventh child in a very large family, adding that his father had many wives or rather, was involved with many women and he isn’t even sure how many of them were officially married. While the lifestyle often attracts criticism, the filmmaker said it is his reality.
In a moment that stirred reactions in the room, Kunle advised that men should marry many women, or at least be involved with many women, saying plainly that if his father hadn’t lived that life, he wouldn’t exist today.
He noted that despite the complex family structure, a few of them are now actively lifting and preserving their father’s legacy. Kunle ended his remarks with a simple reminder: life is short, and roots should never be forgotten.
