Hearts fans slam ‘strange’ Derek McInnes decision vs Rangers – ‘It killed us’

Hearts manager Derek McInnes has come in for criticism from the fanbase for his half-time substitutions in defeat at Rangers.

Goals from Marc Leonard and Claudio Braga meant Hearts went into the half-time interval 2-2 with Rangers.

However, following a double change at the break, Hearts went on to lose the game 4-2, with Youssef Chermiti completing a hat-trick for the hosts.

The defeat, a first to either Glasgow club for Hearts this season, means their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table has been cut to just two points.

Derek McInnes made ‘bizarre subs’ vs Rangers

McInnes decided to replace Ageu and Islam Chesnokov at the break in favour of Jordi Altena and Pierre Kabore.

That meant Hearts had used up three of their five substitutions after Oisin McEntee was forced off with an injury after just 12 minutes, who was replaced by Michael Steinwender who went on to score an own goal.

Hearts supporters have blamed the defeat on McInnes and his half-time changes, with the Jambos not registering a shot on target in the second period.

The visitors held more of an attacking threat in the first half, with three shots on target, despite McInnes feeling changes were needed as Rangers registered four big chances compared to their zero.

One fan believes that a three at the back formation “needs to stop” whilst another “didn’t understand” why McInnes felt the need to make changes so early.

Celtic close gap on Hearts in dramatic finale

It could prove to be a decisive weekend in the Scottish Premiership title race, with Celtic having also earned an important three points at Kilmarnock.

Despite being 2-0 down at half-time, Celtic staged a remarkable comeback which ended in a 97th minute winner from defender Julian Araujo.

The Hoops have therefore also closed the gap on Hearts to three points, and they have a game in hand over their rivals.

With the two teams still set to play each other once more this season, that puts Celtic in pole position to win the title.

Hearts will look to bounce back from defeat against Rangers with two home games in a row against Falkirk and Aberdeen, before they travel to Kilmarnock.
