“I Think Grammy Is Using Nigerians To Boost The GDP Of Los Angeles With All These Nominations” — Musician Cobhams Asuquo
Renowned Nigerian musician and producer Cobhams Asuquo has raised concerns over the Grammy Awards, describing how Nigerians are being used to benefit foreign platforms.
In a viral clip shared online, he said, “I think Grammy is using Nigerians to boost the GDP of Los Angeles with all these nominations. It’s like a carrot dangling in front of us and it goes away.”
In the clip, Cobhams emphasized the need for local initiatives, adding, “I think we need to build something that is ours. It’s only America that will do the Super Bowl and be playing it themselves.”
He further encouraged the industry to rethink its approach to awards, stating, “Then one say we wake up nomination, nomination. Let’s really think about this Grammy of a thing and create something in our own space” He concluded.
