The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Malam Shehu Mohammed, has expressed concern over declining discipline and professionalism among field commands.
Addressing officers and men of the FRSC Sector Command in Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Tuesday in Abuja, Mohammed warned that misconduct and abuse of authority would no longer be tolerated.
In his opening remark, the Corps Marshal described the meeting as a deliberate intervention aimed at correcting operational lapses and restoring public confidence in the service.
Mohammed who was represented by Corps Commander, (CC), Oludare Ogunjobi, explained that the recent deployment of senior officers to various commands was a strategic move prompted by troubling operational reports.
According to him, the postings were not routine administrative actions but urgent steps to address observed trends of indiscipline.
This, he said included weak command and control, unethical practices, extortion and reckless enforcement behaviours.
“Such actions contradict the core values of the FRSC and erode public trust built over decades.
“Every act of unprofessional conduct damages the reputation of thousands of disciplined personnel and makes the Corps’ mandate more difficult to achieve,”he said.
The FRSC boss reiterated the agency’s founding purpose, while reminding personnel that the FRSC was established not merely to enforce traffic laws but to save lives and serve Nigerians with integrity.
He noted that the authority of the Corps flows directly from public trust, warning that once that trust is compromised, effectiveness is also diminished.
The Corps Marshal described the ongoing exercise as corrective rather than punitive, emphasising that it was not a witch-hunt but an opportunity for reorientation, renewal and reinforcement of standards.
Also speaking, the FCT Sector Commander, Mr Felix Theman said that discipline was not punishment but protecting the reputation of officers, the corps and the lives of Nigerians who depended on road safety services daily.
Theman added that personnel should be firm but fair, authoritative yet humane, and enforce the law without fear or favour.
He also warned officers against extortion, harassment and abuse of authority, describing them as illegal and a betrayal of the oath of service.
He assured that commendable conduct would be rewarded adding that violations would be sanctioned with fairness and firmness.
He further encouraged young officers to wear the uniform with pride, reminding them that their conduct in public spaces speaks louder than any public relations effort.
